Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We had the interview scheduled for May 30th, 2006 at 10:00. I had to quickly return to the car because my wife had forgotten a pocket knife in her purse and you can't take anything like a weapon in there. Also, you are not allowed to take cameras or phones with cameras inside. Those regulations should be posted on the web site. However, when we finally got inside to where they do the interviews things went quite well. We waited about 1/2 hour for our case to be called and met with an immigration officer. She asked for some documents then told us to stand, raise our right hand and swear to tell the truth. Subsequently, she began to ask for proof of joint checking accounts, tax returns, life insurance policies, change of property title, etc. I explained that we did not get married in time to file a joint tax return and that we had not been able to open any accounts or change much because my wife had not obtained a social security number. It seems that the officer was most satisfied with the photos of our recent trip to meet my daughter and our new granddaughter. The entire interview lasted about 20 minutes and was so easy that I thought for sure something was wrong. The office confiscated my wife's work permit, original visa admittance stamp and stamped something new into her passport. It was much easier than I was expecting.
