10/17/11 Interview.
Arrived 40 min early for a 9:30 appointment. Surprisingly, no line at the security screening but once inside, there were some people waiting. Was given a number and told to put the required documents in a clear folder given by the receptionist. Since we had already mailed most of the documents, the only thing we turned in was the medical examination results, two passport photos and letterpack500.
The actual interview took less than 5 min. Once your number is called, the interview takes place in one of the DMV type booth were you talk to the officer through a plexi glass window while standing. I was able to accompany my wife during her interview. The questions asked were:
1. How long have you been married?
2. What does your husband do?
3. When do you plan on coming to the states.
4. Have you been to the states?
The interviewing officer was an Asian-American but he spoke some Japanese.
Initially, he asked the questions in English but after seeing that my wife was having trouble understanding the questions, he switched to Japanese.
After the questions, he made my wife swear in told us that she passed! We were out of the building by 10:15 and she received the passport with her new visa in 4 days.
For accommodations, we stayed at the ANA Intercontinental hotel which is less than 5min walk from the Embassy. It is the closest hotel to the Embassy although it is very expensive (about $370/ night)
Best of luck to you!
