I arrived at the embassy 15 minutes early at 8:45. I had read about people waiting in line outside the embassy so I stood at the sign saying "line up here" for a minute reading the instructions on it. Then I remembered the appointment letter said to check in with the guard station.
The guard asked for my passport and checked that I was on the list. I then went through airport like security. I had to leave my phone and all other electronic devices at the guard house.
Inside the Embassy I first talked to a Swedish woman who checked that I had all the documents they had asked me to bring. After giving her all the documents I had to go to a different window to pay the $404 fee and then come back to give her some of the receipts (You get one to keep too)
I was then instructed to sit down and wait to be called. After about 20 minutes I was called to a different window to be interviewed. I was surprised that the consular officer interviewed me in Swedish! I think I would have been more comfortable speaking English as it ended up being a bit of a mix of both. It was a really easy interview. She asked me how I met my wife, where my wife had studied in the U.S. and if I had a job lined up in the U.S. I didn't have to show any pictures, our marriage license or any of the other "proof" I had brought along (Both our names on our U.S. car insurance, shared credit card account, photos, mail addressed to both of us)
After the five minute interview I was told that everything looked good and that I should get the visa in about a week. She wished me well and told me she hoped I'd enjoy living in the States.
