Review Topic: K1 Visa

After waiting around, handing in some papers, waiting around, paying the fee, waiting around some more, taking an oath...Mohammed was finally called in for the interview. The consular officer was stern but not mean. She wanted a lot of clarification regarding why I had been in Syria. Mostly the basic questions that you see on all the discussion boards -- How did you fall in love? Where did you go together in Damascus? When was the last time you saw her? How do you keep in touch now? How is the current situation in Syria? etc. etc.

The CO told Mohammed "I cannot give you the visa today" and then gave him a paper asking for more information. She explained that she needs more tax information from me and my co-sponsor, as well as a letter from the Syrian military saying that Mohammed is not supposed to be serving in the army right now. We will send those via Aramex ASAP!

Overall, not a bad experience! Definitely nerve-wracking, but not nasty or unreasonable. The embassy is very accommodating for Syrians who have had their visas re-directed to Amman.
