Yesterday my wife had her interview and it went fairly smooth with easy questions about how we met, where will we live in US, when do we plan to go, etc. She knew all the answers really well as we rehearsed as has been advised by so many on this site. But then the Consular asked for proof of domicile in California, where we intend to live, and my wife said we sent a Lease, but the Consular didn't have it. It was obviously misplaced or lossed and that was one item we didn't have a copy of (my fault), so yesterday afternoon I sent it in via email and today we were told all was okay.
The window was #5 and interestingly was the same Consular (lady with long brown hair parted in the middle) that turned down my wife last December for a Visitor visa because she couldn't prove she had strong ties to Thailand insuring her return. At that interview the Consular was not helpful and not too nice, but this time she was helpful and nice. She asked if my wife wanted the interview in English or Thai and my wife said her English wasn't too good and the Consular said it sounded good to her, but when my wife didn't understand a question she repeated it in Thai, which helped immensely.
Two things I thought we would have trouble with, the Lease we signed was with my nephew, the rent was $1 month and it was a copy and not the original, which I thought they would question it being a copy and the a $1 amount, but didn't. And my wife needed to get a MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) innoculation, but a booster is required one month later and I thought at the last minute they would say that we needed to get the booster before the visa petition could be approved, but they didn't. We will get her visa Friday.
It's amazing how your thoughts can change so quickly. This morning I wanted to kill the Embassy as it felt like I was hanging by a rope and they were taking their sweet time handliing our petition, but now we've been approved and my disposition has improved instantaneously. In hindsight thinking back over the entire process and what needed to be done the Embassy in general did a fairly good job, but being a bureaucracy operates at a snail's pace.
