First.... TAKE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE INTO THE BUILDING IN TERMS OF ELECTRONICS, NO METAL BELTS, ETC. THIS ONLY HOLDS UP THE QUEUE. 2ND.. everyone who has said the door to get into the waiting room for the visa interview IS heavy... no lie... and don't think, oh, right I'm a strong person... My fiance is strong and he said "VJ members weren't kidding..it nearly pulled my arm from my socket trying to pull it".
My fiance said the people at the consulate are wonderful, nice and reassuring. They treat you with respect, they let you correct yourself, they understand you are nervous, they aren't on a witch hunt or interrogration (much nicer than the Melbourne Consulate people!)
The interview, more than likely because its our 3rd marriage, was tough! The Consulate officer (a lady) asked him questions about me from birth to current. She flipped through the entire packet asking questions. There were a few boxes we didn't tick like what was my fiance's maiden name (he said, well, I'm a man, so I don't have a maiden name- the CO was not amused so he quickly pulled his head in and said no) and the boxes about if he had family in the US. But they let him amend those and swear oath.
There were a lot of questions about his prior marriages, my prior marriages and how we met and why did our last marriage take so long for divorce for each of us the last time.
She asked about what work he planned to do in the US
What did I do in the US (checking off what was on the paper)
Where did I live in the US
When was the last time my fiance saw me face to face
How we met (she cut him off when he said facebook game and started to tell her the details.. she said "right, thats good, stop")
Have you ever been arrested in the US, have you committed an offense with intent to harm in the US, Have you ever planned to do harm to a US entity (more detailed than just do you have a criminal record)
Have you met your fiancee's sons?
Have you met your fiancee's family?
Has your family met your fiancee?
Where are you getting married?
She told him he would have to sort out his immunizations when he gets in the US (because the
Her primary focus was our past marriages.
She looked through all the photos provided in the original packet but didn't comment.
She didn't ask for additional documentation (though he had a stack ready)
My fiance said she did a lot of typing into the computer, writing some on the papers. My fiance said he saw the congratulations letter before he ever sat down for the interview (but the questions were still tough). He says the most of the time (50 minutes total) was her typing, sifting through the paperwork, then asks a question (he says make sure your answers are to the point, detailed but as condensed as possible because she did a lot of typing)
She gave him a packet with copies (yes copies) of our original letters proving our relationship (I'm thinking, what? I thought they gave us the original) and the originals of his birth certificates, etc.
My fiance stayed at the Travellodge Phillip Street - very comfy bed, great staff and helpful--- the reception desk man took Rodney directly for a walk across the street when he arrived the night before to show him the consulate building.
She told him he should have his passport and sealed packet back in a week!!!!
I just hit click on the ticket purchase and my baby will be home in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now time to print the wedding invites and get them out!
