I came with my fiancee to the embassy to help her out with filling the paperwork and to comfort her for the interview. We had our interview on August 18.

We arrived at the American embassy in Addis Ababa around 8:00am, the seating location was filled with people, we went to sit at the back. You organize your documents according to two groups: Documentation and Evidence of Relationship. As soon as you enter the embassy they give you a folder and you have to put your passport, passport size photos, birth certificate, non-marriage status, police certificate, ... etc. on there and when her number was called we head to the desk to submit the documents, then they took her electronic fingerprint (ashara), and told us to sit down till they call our name. We waited half an hour then we paid the $350 fee at the window, they gave us receipt and we were told to sit down again. Now we had to wait another 3 to 4 hours for her interview. I saw some people accepted, some rejected as they passed by. There is no watch there and they take ur cellphone at the entrance so if you have a watch its preferable to bring with you.

Then they called my fiance to the window for interview, the lady asked "who is he?" and she told her that's her fiancee. Then the lady asked me to sit down while she interview her. She asked her questions like "What does your fiance do for a living" "When did you first meet" "Where does your fiance live?" "How do you keep in contact?" she said mostly by phone and she asked for phone records. We showed her the Ethio Tele corp list and also long distance company record i printed out (it was very long 10 pages). She glanced over it then she asked "When will you get married?" "Why didn't you get married here in Ethiopia?" she ask this a couple times my fiance explained most my family is in America. Then my fiance showed her the photos we have together and she believed the relationship more. Then she said "Congradulations!" We were soo happy and relieved. Alhamdulilah (Thank God) for everything.

Another issue the name of fiance on the visa was mixed up because another girl with similar name had interview the same day. She had to go back to embassy and replace visa and packet. Be very sure the information on the visa is correct so you can avoid any problems like deportation or immigration problem.

Thanks for visa journey and American embassy in Ethiopia
