Review Topic: K1 Visa

We arrived at the Consulate at 6:20 am and people were already lined up. They called for immigrant visas right at 7 & we got in line. They allowed me to stay with him until he went through the security checkpoint. At that time I went outside to wait in one of the rented chairs. *if you go to wait know there is no restroom facilites so be prepared to pee in the bush :D*. He took in 2- 3" binders as well as a photo album, bag of phone cards (BTW they no longer accept phone cards), and an accordian folder.
I had prepared a letter for the CO since I was not allowed to be present. I outlined our red flags and how we could prove they were not issues in our relationship. For example I said that although I am white & that goes against the cultural norm, his uncle has been married to a white lady for over 30 years and so the family was more open minded to our relationship. He gave this letter to the CO immedialty. The CO read the letter and we believe it helped us tremendously. Here are the questions he was asked;
1. How did you met?
2. Has she been married before & when was she divorced?
3. How many kids?
4. Who has financed the 4 trips? (he was impressed I had been there that many times in a 2 year period & also that I was waiting outside)
5. Who does she live with (my ex is on my house deed still)
6. What work does she do?
7. Since I have been married before why don't we have our church wedding there in Nigeria?
8. What are our wedding plans?
9. What church do I attend?
10. What is the denomination?
The CO looked at our pictures which we had labeled. He asked to see our phone records but when he saw how immense the stack was he said never mind. He did read through a few of our chats from the beginning of our realtionship. The CO said he had no doubts that our realtionship is valid. The only issue is that my ex is on my house title and he can't understand how we can afford so many trips as I am primarily a student. He said he needs proof that our families helped finance my trips and that I no longer have a relationship with my ex and then we will be approved. He even tried to help us get the information to him immedaitly so he could travel back with me, but it was a Friday. He gave a 221(g) and said to get the letters and he will get him right back in. He said that unless he was out for some reason he would be the one to see him when he returns. The CO was very nice and helpful (Huge answer to Prayer).
While waiting his turn he saw several people denied. Many did not have sufficient evidence. One lady who was intervieweing for the K1 told them she had no wedding plans, she was told to come back and apply for the toruist visa. Kelvin said the most important thing (aside from prayer & evidence) was to stay calm and be confident.
