it was great to read other reviews to see how things might go down....but surprise, surprise it was somewhat different. We got to the embassy (my Canadian wife) around 7:30 and the line was long...already maybe 15 others in line. We waited to get in - no problem - they let only a few at a time in the building - then metal detector, etc. then they told us to go down the stairs and catch the elevator up to the visa floor. We did all that then got into a line to get a number. We got C14. Next we waited, and waited, and waited...finally a girl called out our number and we went to the booth - gave her a bunch of original doc.'s like birth, death, police certs, etc. Then we sat back down and waited and waited and waited. I brought a book - you can't have any electronics, even a simple car door key fob. Seems silly, but you just go along and avoid issues.
After about the 3:30 hour mark of our visit we were called to the Dreadlock girls booth. She was real nice and pleasant - asked a few questions, like where I work, etc. Then said welcome to the US - the visa is approved.
All in all, very anticlimatic - total time at the consulate was about 4 hours. It seems we had everything in order and were prepared with the original doc.'s so it was a relatively easy process. Others were having trouble because of not having the paper they needed. We stayed at the residence inn on Peel street. Very nice place with a fantastic breakfast included. I pricelined the hotel for $80 a night. We visited in montreal for a few days and now just await the visa.
