Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance finished her K-1 visa interview the other day. She said everything went great and the interview was fast. Both of us have a very "clean" background so I wonder if that had anything to do with it (i.e. first marriage for both of us, and no kids, no criminal records, etc.).

She arrived at 6:45 AM. She said there was a long line to enter the consulate, but she was allowed in so the staff could check her documentation. After about 2 hours, her interview began (she requested an English interview). Only about 10 or so questions were asked, including the following:

Why do you have a new passport? (my fiance got a new passport a month before the interview date because her older one was nearing the 6 month until expiration date)

You speak English?

What language do you speak with your fiance?

How did you meet him?

Why did your friend introduce you to your fiance? (she had just explained in the previous answer that a friend had introduced us)

What are his parents' nationalities?

Did your fiance have Thai girlfriends before you? (I think she must have asked this because my fiance answered previously that I had lived in Thailand for several years)

How do you normally communicate with your fiance?

Where did you first meet?

When will you go to America?

What will you do there for a job?

And that was it. We had spent several days before the interview practicing questions and answers with each other, and it seems that our 10-15 minute practice sessions were longer than the actual interview.

For evidence she presented at the interview, she brought a photo album with photos and descriptions of us together, with family, etc., in both Thailand and here in the US, copies of plane tickets for journeys we had taken together, and a few pages (less than 5) of print outs of chatting, voice, and video calling histories with Skype or other messaging applications.

All in all, we are pleased that the experience went well, despite the long and tortuous wait of almost 10 months since we started the process! Good luck all.
