Arrive for 1pm appointment about 5 minutes early and we were about 5th in line to enter. Not everyone was there for a visa, some were there for reporting a birth, etc.
Got in and the security guard gave us our number, seems everyone ahead of us was waiting for a non-immigrant visa. Since we were there for an immigrant visa, we were called right away. First stop was the cashier to pay our $404. As soon as we were done paying, the woman in the next window was ready for us. She took all of our forms. The police report, photos, birth cert, everything that packet 4 tells you to bring. She looked to make sure it was all there and in order. Everything was great until she asked for the I-864, as they would not take into consideration our assets, only cash. We kind of expected this anyway. She told us to take a seat and the Consular would call us up. There was one man ahead of us who took about 45 minutes. Has he not taken so long, we would have been out of there in about 30 minutes in total. Anyway, went to the consular, said everything is fine, we just need a joint sponsor. Once the joint sponsor sends in their I-864, they will send us on the visa.
I have to say, it was an overall pleasant experience. I found everyone we dealt with to be fine, and pleasant to deal with. I will say that you should have everything exactly as they ask for it. For example, there was a woman who had to leave to get a new envelope because she didnt have the correct size. Everything they ask for in packet 4, they want.
Even though we don't have the visa yet, we walked away very happy with our experience.
