Our interview was scheduled for 1pm on a Friday afternoon. We parked 3 blocks away from the federal building in LA and arrived at the office at around 12:20pm. There was no line at the security check point. Took the elevator to the 8th floor, showed the interview notice to the guard at the door, and handed the notice off to the person in Window 1.
The waiting room was pretty spacious, and there weren't a lot of people there...perhaps 10 parties at first. We were called in shortly after 1pm. The IO showed us to his office, introduced himself, and swore us in. Then, he started asking us for some documents and making chit chat with us. He was very thorough verifying our personal information. About 30 minutes into the interview, he asked us to wait in the room and left for about 5 minutes. Then, the IO came back, printed out some forms from his PC, and told us we've been granted green card...yay.. We were out of the office by 1:45pm.
My impression of the interview is that, the chit chat, however small it seems, is really the way for the IO to dig in to the relationship. Of course, if you have a real relationship, then there is nothing to fear. The interview was overall pleasant.
