I wish I was writing this as soon as I heard the news: "Welcome to America",so all the details are correct and I didn't forget anything. But I will try to recall all the details 2 days after the interview.
Went to the consulate the nite before so I knew exactly where to go. It was a 10 minute walk from the Hotel. I arrived at the consulate at around 7:15 and there were about 15 people already in line, all lined up to the left of the entrance. They started taking people in at 7:30. They asked for my passport and confirmation letter and was asked to wait in line. Once through the 2nd door, they looked at my passport and confirmation letter, took my little tiny purse any my eco-bag with my x-rays and all the paper work and placed it in a tray and x-rayed that. I went through the metal detector and they asked me if I had anything in my pockets, said no and was very pleasantly told hello by another security officer to go through that door, which you have to push first to hear the click, and then pull, and wait in the waiting area downstairs.
Once I went downstairs, I took a seat not anywhere near the elevator, as they were already taken. But luckily when the security officer came down he kindly said hi again to me, and approached me and the lovely lady beside me and asked us two to follow him, and then he had everyone else in the waiting room line up behind us...hooray for this. But I wasn't too thrilled that the people who thought they would get in first elbowed me and tried to shove in front of me. Luckiy the Security office was in the elevator. I was the first one off the elevator and the first person in line to get a ticket, which was C1 (love that combination).
My ticket was called and I went to the first gentleman who took my passport and confirmation letter and my sealed medical and two photo's, which he kindly took out of my tiny white envelope paper-cliped to my passport. He asked how I was, I told him I was extremely nervous and he said I shouldn't be nervous, because that could make him nervous..he was so nice saying that remark, it calmed me right down. He took my fingerprints: 4 fingers first, then the 2 thumbs together..I didn't put them high enough on the machine, so we had to do it again. Second attempt was fine, we both laughed.
Had to wait some more and then was called up the second time,to another booth, where the lady was very thorough and asked me for my birth certificate, Police certificate, and affidavit of support (1-134).
Asked to go back to the waiting area, when I was called up the third time and was met with a vary friendly Consulate agent. She asked what my fiance does, where he works, how we met, and she commmented how very organized my fiance was with all the paper work, I said yes he is such a good man. I was still very nervous and she referred to him as my husband, but then corrected herself by saying fiance. Actually recall the other female agent also saying husband, so took this as a very favourable sign. Anyway I was still very nervous and mixed up our dates and she corrected me and I apologized because I was so nervous, tears were welling up in my eyes and she also said no need to be nervous everything is all FINE, she made me sign, I believe it was the DS-156K form and give her the letter of intent to Marry Letter from my fiance. She asked if my husband, corrected herself, my fiance is always so organized, again told her how lucky I am. The next thing I know she is giving me two pieces of paper, and said congratulations on the wedding, I said everything is fine? she said yes I started crying and said thanks to her, and I made a comment about how lucky that the womens bathroom was right behind us, she laughed. I forgot my x-rays in the waiting room and had to go back to the 3rd booth and ask the Consular office if she had my x-rays, she said I probably left them in the waiting room, yes sure enough I left them on the seat beside me. I went back to wave her thank you, she smiled. I sat down to regain my composure and couldn't find the 2 pages she gave me and I had to go back and tell her I couldn't find my pages, she assured me I put them with all my papers, well sat down again and found them among all the pile. I guess I was so nervous and elated at the same time.
I have to say from start to finish, which was 10:00, it was very efficient, thorough and quick. All the personnel and Officers at the Consulate were wonderful!!!! They made me feel at ease, made me chuckle and made the interview a very pleasant and memorable one. The fact that they didn't kick me out for bothering my 3rd Consular Officer twice after the interview was indeed a treat
