Our appointment was 1230, and my son's was 1 pm. We arrived in Detroit immigration office at 1210, after almost an hour of waiting my name was called by a nice guy and I asked him if I will bring my son with me in the room, then he said yes.
We first took our oaths then he asked about my parents name, then he put checks on my application, then showed me the signature and asked if that was my signature.
He asked me the questions about felonies, conviction, arrests, etc and all answers were NO, While he was asking me those question, he made a joke to my son and asked him if he will be a terrorist?
He asked my husband if he is still working? He said that he has my husband's ITR for 2005 so he wants to see some recent pay stubs.
He asked us what documents i had with me to show our relationship, I said marriage certificate. Then he said, what else? So i handed him the following: (xerox and original copies)
Bank statement with our names
Water bill with our names
Health Insurance
Car insurance
He just sorted out the xeroxed copies and gave me the originals.
He also asked for IDs, mine and husband's driver's license, and state ID for my son, Then he made copies.
He explained to us that the GC is only conditional within 2 yrs, that I and husband should file Form I-751, a joint petition to have the conditional basis of the status removed. So after one yr and 90 days, and before it expires , the petition should be filed. If after two yrs and it is not filed yet, the spouse alien will be subject to removal from the US.
We signed two documents with the offircer's signature also, then gave me my copy.
My son didnt have the finger print coz we didnt receive any appointment for him, and the officer told us that he couldnt make his GC yet until he had his fingerprint. We were advised to have his biometrics in the same area in Detroit, only 3 streets away from the office. He phoned the biometrics office and make a special request for my son's fingerprint. (It was nice of him coz he learned that our house is a 4 hour drive to detroit to have our interview, and my biometrics appontment before was in Grand Rapids 3 hour drive, thats why he made that request.)
He also told me that my background check is finished and made a comment "and thats the good news!" I said yehey!!
He then said that GC will arrive within 4 weeks, but my son's will be little late coz of his finger print. He asked me if I have plans of trvelling outside America? (probably, he would speed up my GC), but i said No.
Before we went out of the room i asked him if i can work the next day after that interview, or can i apply for a job, then he told me that he can stamp my passport with the authorization. He took my passport and stamped it that i can work and will expire in one year, then took the I-94 form. He said that I can go to Canada, but i should not bring my son, coz he has no authorization yet. Then he said something again about my son's green card will arrive probably the same as mine.
i checked the USCIS website awhile ago, and my son's application was touched. Probably its his fingerprint.
Thats all, good luck to all who will have their interview soon.
