I filed for a K1 visa and have to say that the entire process in Montreal went smoother than I had originally anticipated. I was expecting somewhat of a hassle judging by what others have been through and ended up recieving no issue at all.

The process is fairly standard. I say to arrive early. The earlier you go, the faster you will get out. I got to the consulate by 6:50 in the morning and waited outside until about 7:30. They let you in, you go through security, and then they place you into this tiny room that is rather intimidating. I waited there for about 20 more minutes until we were taken up an elevator to the 19th floor.

Once there, you are given a number depending on your case. What scared me when I got in was that I was not on their official list for interviews. Do not let this bother you. They took me in regardless, pulled my file using my appointment number given to me when you schedule your interview on the CSC website. They will ask you for your confirmation page, passport, affidavit, evidence of support, etc. They take your fingerprints. They asked me for nothing concerning evidence of domicile. I am assuming because my fiance's passport and present address in the US match their records so they know he lives in the US and not abroad. They also asked for my medical.

I sat down for maybe another 20-30 minutes until I was called to another window. I was asked two basic questions about my relationship to my fiancé, how we met, and how I became engaged, along with the date of these events. I ran into one snag and that was the translation of my birth certificate. I did not bring the original BC with me because it was in Polish. I just brought the original translation. Bring one extra copy of everything. They usually don't take your originals. I didn't realize I should have brought the original Polish BC, but she said since I brought the translation, she let me off.

That was it. I got approved, she made some notes in the system, told me I should get my passport and visa within a week or two. They ship it out 3-5 business days after the interview.

The entire process took about two hours. I went up at 8am and came out at 10am. :D
