I had my Interview today at the Consulate and it was all in all a very pleasant experience. I had an appointment for 9.30am but arrived early at 8.45am and stood in the Non-Immmigrant Visas line (the Immigrant Visas line wasn\'t open) which wasn't very long. After about 10 min I got up to the counter, where I had to show my passport and payment slip, then he crossed my name off the appointment list and gave me my number: W611.
Then I stood in line for security where a guy was making sure that no-one had any electronics and that everyone had gotten a number...he was joking around and made everyone laugh. Later the security guy told him jokingly he was being to nice to people but they both laughed about it ;-) the security officers were all very friendly too and smiles all around, he lifted my heavy bag and was all "are you serious??" when I told him it's only my documents inside of there.
Then I walked to the main building where a guy instructed me to sit down and wait until my number was called...I didn't even have time to sit down when I already saw my number on the screen for counter 23. Went there to a nice lady who took my passport, two passport pictures and my visa deposit slip, and gave me the sheet on how to arrange my documents (which I had already done at home). She then told me to sit back down again and that my number would be called up again.
So I sat down and after around 30 min I had to go to counter 19. A German speaking man greeted me who took my sorted documents (birth certificate, police certificate, I-134 and supporting documents), checked that all of the information on my DS forms was still correct, and explained to me everything else I already knew: Visa is valid for 6 months, have to marry in 90 days after POE, then AOS yada yada yada, and then he gave me the envelope to put my address and stamps on. Then he said my number would be called up for a third time for the actual interview with the Consul.
That happened around an hour later at counter 17 and was a lot less scary than I had imagined it to be. The lady was very friendly and smiled throughout the whole interview. She asked questions such as "where did you meet, how did you stay in contact, have you met his family and vice versa, has he been to Germany, will you work in the US, where does your fiance live and where does he work, where was he born, will you have a big wedding or just the two of you?" All in all a handful of questions but she always smiled after my answers and it didn't seem like an interrogation at all. She went through all of the paperwork (including the initial I-129F package) and half-way through she asked jokingly "You're trying to kill me with all this paperwork, aren't you?" but said she understood that we just wanted to be sure we were covered :-) then she suddenly said "Everything looks great and you should receive your visa in about two weeks"
So I was done in about 2 hours. Everyone was really nice and helpful and it was a lot less scary than I had made it out to be  I had already had my Medical back in June and that was also very quick and pleasant! Frankfurt is great!
