My interview was yesterday, June 29, and am now home in Alberta. Three flights and three hours late however. I will write a separate note on the hotel after. I got up at 5:30 after having slept right through the night. I was not nervous obviously. I went down the street to Tim Hortons and got a coffee then walked to the consulate. I had my folder, my sunglasses, my smokes and lighter and my reading glasses. Got to the consulate doors at 6:30, a man was about three steps before me so was second in line. He was from Calgary and is immigrating to Oregon. We got talking and I asked him if he was on VJ. He said no. Imagine my dilemma at whether or not to tell him the secret about the elevator, I opted not to. I wanted that C1. LOL. Anyway he used a lawyer and didn't even know about DHL!!! A few minutes later a lady from Toronto showed up. She had two bags with her, one to hold her large exrays and the other a small backpack. The doors opened promptly at 7:30 a.m. and we were let in one by one, I was second. They kept my smokes and lighter with them. I walked down the stairs and sat at the first chair, the man was about 5 chairs down. When the couple came down they said the lady with the bags was sent back to her hotel to get rid of a bag. They sat next to me. By the time the guard came to lift the red strap across the elevator the room was full. Not sure of the time. I was first in the elevator and a women who was one of the last to arrive stood beside me (she sat in the other chair by the elevator). I was first off and a nice lady led us to a roped off area where we were called up one by one to get a number. I got C1!!!!

In about 3 mins my number came up on the board. I went to window 9 where I was met by a man. He took my passport, I told him it was a new one with a new name so he made the changes in the computer. He asked for the packet from the medical, ripped it apart, handed me back my exray CD and the list of immunizations saying he didn't need those. Next he said "I will ask for certain papers one by one". As he listed them I gave them to him. He didn't want any copies, just originals. Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Crim Check, divorce Certificates, and the affidavit of suport along with the newest year of taxes. He then asked if I had a DS-230 completed. I handed it to him and he went over a couple of questions to make sure they were still the same info. I had to add hubby's name to where I would be staying in the USA. He then took my fingerprints and asked me questions "Where did you meet", "what does your husband do for work?" "What do you do for work". He handed me a packet of copies he had but didn't need and the other half of my C1 ticket. He said "someone else will go through these papers and you will be called, just wait in the waiting room". Okey dokey.

I came back out and the man from Calgary was filling out a DS-230. His lawyer obviously didn't know to fill one out. I seemed to wait forever for the interview. The couple thought maybe they don't start interviews until 9. Of course I am thinking to myself "someone else is reviewing all the papers, maybe there is something not right". Funny how your mind plays tricks. At 9 a.m on the dot I was called to window 7. I got the blond lady!!!! She said my name is so common she will look up my file by passport number. She found it. She then handed me back my originals. She asked where I am currently living, and where I would be living in the states. She then said everything looks good handed me the Welcome to the USA letter. I said "That's it?" She said "that's it, that's all." She said my passport will be sent out in two weeks.

I then asked her if she knew how famous she was on VJ? She said "Oh I know I am known as the lady who gives easy interviews but if you don't have your paperwork together I am not so easy." LOL

I stopped on my way out and picked up my smokes. I was outside the bldg at 9:05. A painless experience.
