They call all the k-1ers at 1pm but it's good to be there a little bit earlier. We were in at 12:50. I waited for a little bit, then I heard my name - you have to listen carefully because their microphones suck :D The lady asked for my ds forms - only one ds-156 and the ds-156k. Then for my police certificates and birth certificate - make sure you have a copy of your birth certificate. After that I gave her the affidavit of support, pay stubs, tax transcripts for the last 3 years, and letters from Matt’s employers. The last things I gave her were two folders - one with pictures, and the other one with emails, copies of cards, chat logs, airplane tickets, etc.
Next thing on the list - fingerprints. Then I waited for about 2 hours when my name was called again. The interview was really easy, I don't think it lasted more than 2 minutes. The consul was really nice, smiled the whole time. He first told me he needs to take my oath, had me swear everything in the application was true and that I am going to marry my fiancé in 90 days after my arrival
After this the interview started: I see you've been to the States before, was that where you met your fiancé? Answer: Yes.
Second question: When did you get engaged? Answer: Last summer. Q: Was it a surprise? A: No, we actually talked about getting married for a while and then we just decided we’re going to do it.
Q: Have you made any wedding plans?
A: We’ll get married at town hall, his family will be there and some of our friends. And as soon as I’m all set with my documents- i.e. green card – we’ll have an American wedding and a Romanian one.
Then he asked why we want to have 2 weddings. And I said that it would be impossible for all my relatives and friends to go to the States for our wedding and vice versa. He started smiling and said that it’s also a good excuse to have 2 parties. We shared a quick laugh and then he said my visa was approved, but that he doesn’t know if they can process it today. I went back to the waiting room and after a couple of minutes he said I can either come the next day at 9am to pick it up or I can wait for it to be delivered by courier. The next day I went back, and in 15 minutes I was out with my passport and the famous brown envelope – which had one of the corners cut – the consul said that’s the way it’s supposed to be. I hope she was right…but I guess I will find out tomorrow when I get to Boston. That’s it! Hope this helps and that your experience is as smooth as mine was
