Bogota, Colombia | Review on June 16, 2011: | Daniel and Laura
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
Our appointment was for June 16th at 7am. We arrived at 6 and were maybe number 8 in line (it really doesn´t matter if you're first in line or not, that doesn't mean you get interviewed first. I have no idea what kind of order they usejavascript:emoticon('')). They started calling everyone's name in line 3 for the K visas but they didn't call our name so we almost started freaking out but they just looked at our appointment letter and the DS-156 and said it was fine. So if that happens to you, don't worry! We were let in the embassy at 6:30 and went throught the security line.
We were immediately sent to line 40 and given a folder to organize our documents. Make sure to write the applicant's FULL name on the back of the passport photos, save your self a little time. It's also smart to bring your own pen or pencil to fill out the Domesa form and any other things they need you to sign or fill out. After we organized the documents, we turned them back in and waited... and waited...
Here's a tip... sit as far from the bathrooms as possible, when someone opens the door... its not pleasant. We sat and waited until 8:15 when they called Daniel to window 31 to go over the documents and ask him a few questions.
*what is your name?
*what is your phone number?
*what is your fiance's phone number?
*where are you both going to live?
Then we waited some more. At 9:45 they called Daniel for fingerprints at window 2. They called us again at 10:20 for the actual interview. The lady that spoke with Daniel was very nice. She looked at all of our documents and commented on how well organized everything was (they really like that). Then she started asking Daniel questions in spanish...
*when and how did you meet?
*does your finace speak spanish?
*how many times has she come to Colombia?
*do you speak english? (the answer was yes so she continued in english)
*what work do you do here?
*what work do you intend to do in the states?
*what is your fiance's work?
Then she said everything looks good and in order. Your visa is approved. Please continue to the Domesa stand to pay for delivery. We were so happy!! :D We paid the courier and were out of the embassy by 10:45. So total of 4 hours and 45 min. Not as long as we were expecting.
Everything was overall a pretty good experience. The mochachinos at the cafe are good and they have breakfast and lunch foods too. The waiting sucks but that's par for the course with this situation. My fiance was particularly nervous because he was previously denied tourist (B1) visas. This is totally different. As long as you meet the requirements financially and have ALL of your documents in order, you should have no problem at all. javascript:emoticon('')
