Rating: | Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Our interview started on the 1st with the document hand off. Even though the interview letter listed about 5 things that they needed the originals, the only documents actually turned over were the tax returns and I-864. We showed up at 12:30 where they started to let people in. By about 1:00 she was heading in to the consulate and it took about 3 hours to get through this step. The CO took her fingerprints and then asked her a few questions. How we met, has she ever been out of China and is she a member of the CCP. They put a green sticker on her interview letter and done for the day. Day two we arrived just before 7:30 with a backpack full of everything we had submitted plus the additional evidence since we got married. Here things got a little confused. Some people with the same visa type and same process didn't have the green sticker so we got separated in to two lines with the green stickers going first. Didn't seem to make a difference once inside however as they call the cases based on the number assigned the previous day. Xiaoming got the dreaded window 22 with the very strict Asian guy. He rejected the first 7 or 8 petitions so she was pretty nervous when she went up. Most of the windows were taking 10 or 15 minutes per interview but this guy takes 30 to 40 minutes. Not sure if he gets assigned the questionable cases or he is overly meticulous or what. Xiaoming said he paid the most attention to the Evolution of Relationship letter which we had fortunatley updated and had notarized before I left. This and the pictures were the two things he looked at. He then asked the following
Where did you meet? online at meetic.com
When did you get married? (she has a bracelet with our anniversary date on it )
Have you ever been married? No
Has he ever been married? Yes
Do either of you have kids? No
What is his favorite food? Chinese (she answered with this out since she knew to say something and to be confident).
That was it and of course he didn't look at anything else, but I would rather bring a truck load of evidence that wasn't needed than to risk not having something that was. Xiaoming said the guy is a little strict and not too friendly, but not mean either. Just very businesslike at least at the beginning. After the questions were answered to his satisfaction he seemed to be less strict to her. All in all, a stressful day, but not too bad and we finished with pink when a lot of people at his window got blue or white so we can't complain.
