This is how my day went on the day of my interview for my K-1 Visa, I hope this helps, if not, please send me a private message or email me if you need to know anything more...
I arrived at the US Embassy about 12:50pm, I had to sit outside and wait until 1pm - this is the time they open. Once it was 1pm, the security guards asked all that were waiting outside to line up. We lined up and they checked our appointment letters (make sure you have this out). They then ask you to switch your cell phone off and allow one person at a time go through the first door. Once you get inside the security area, put your cell phone and any other electronic device into a "bin" to go through the scanner with your handbag (if you are a lady ), you then walk through the body scanner and pick up your bag on the other side. They give you a big see-through and white number that you give back once you finished with your interview to get your cellphone etc back.
You then go into the main building for the interview. And sit in front of number 10 and 11 interview windows and wait to be called up to window 10. This is what happens at window 10 :
The person asks you for all the forms you had to fill out for them in packet 3, passport and then I was asked if I had any evidence of our relationship - which I had tons of, so I gave him all I had. He then asked how Dustin and I met, and when I plan on leaving. I told him I wasn't sure yet, as I was waiting for my visa. He then asked me to do fingerprints. I then had to sit down and wait again.
I waited a while and then an officer came to window 11 and called me up. I had to do a fingerprint, then raise my right hand and swear that I will tell the truth. The officer then asked me how we met, and what I plan on doing once I get to the US, I said get married (and he laughed a bit) then hopefully find work once I received my EAD. He then asked me how long I was in JHB for and then asked if I would like to have my visa couried or would I like to pick it up. I said i'd like to pick it up because I was in JHB for the next week. So he gave me a green slip and told me I could come back the next day at 2pm to pick it up.
Both people were really nice guys. The officer was "stricter" looking etc, but they both seemed to be down to earth.
The only thing I got very annoyed about was when I went back to pick it up, I sat there for 2 hours only to be told that my visa still wasn't ready! I then had to go back to my friends place. I then called every day the next week to follow up on the printing, but was told every time that it still was not printed. On the Friday I received a phone call at 8:25am to tell me it was ready, and then I could pick it up that day at 11:00am - lucky because it was the day I was leaving JHB to come back to PMB.
The whole interview experience was great - the interviewers were very friendly.
