Consulate / USCIS Member Review #7528

Guangzhou, China Review on April 28, 2011:

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Week before interview:

First, I could not be with my Fiancee on her interview date due to that the consulate had send her package 4 incorrect ... 2 times. We received a letter that looked like the appointment letter but was missing some information. With less than 5 days before the said interview day, the consulate got with me and call her a few times to have her go online (to the GUZ Consulate site) and download the K-1 Pkg 4 PDF's. Latterly the day she got to GUZ, they called her again to make sure she had received her Appointment letter -- Nice that they will call...

First Day in GUZ:
11:30am to about 2PM(if I remember correct) she went to the specific hospital that the consulate said to go to, and was told to come back at 4PM to pick up the Sealed Results, and not to open it.

Second Day (pre-screening):
She said that there was So Many People, and what a long wait. I thought there really must be a lot, since she is used to a city with 7.4 million and if you are used to that and say "... a lot of people" it must be more!

Once she made her way in, she said that she did see many American looking people but all Chinese speaking people did the pre-screening. They took all our papers, 156, 157, DS-230/P2 and others. Funny the day before a few lady told her she should bring records of my electric, water and home mortgage bills. Thank God for email! I got it to her but later found it was not needed. When she was asked for her papers, they spoke all in Chinese to her. Asked her if she could speak English, if we were petitioning for her son (we are not, or not at this time), then they asked if she was a member of the CCP.

She said they were all very nice, and handed her many of my 134 Affidavit Support papers back say we do not need this, this... Better to be over prepared that the opposite!!

Day two was over, go back to hotel and relax.

Last day - Interview day:
Up at 6Am, eat, get to consulate at 7AM. She did not talk to much about this other that the quantity of people plus that many ladies were so nervous just asking question, what to do, what are you go to say, what is your visa type +++ My lady and I started our consulate Role Interview Playing at least 6 months prior - so so the least this irritated her a lot!!

After getting in, being finger printed, then the long wait, it was her turn. She did say she was almost the very last to be interviewed so this just made her even more anxious... Her number got called around 12:30 in the afternoon.

She walks up the her interviewer and said, Hello and Good afternoon. She does speak English very well (in the capacity of Basic Conversational, can read and write the language too). He replied nicely, Hello.

Q1: How did you and your fiancee meet?
(I told her when this question came up, and after she answered the question to say "My fiancee anted me to give you our EOR, thank you." She did, he kept it during the interview, looked at it for a minute..."

Q2: Does your fiancee have children? Yes he has X

Q3: How old are they?

Q4: What are their names?

Q5: Tell me what the oldest child wants to do...Life? Very strange question here!! She replied very good and said, She is 16, she is in school, this is her focus now...

Q6: You have a son, why are you not petitioning for him now too? We knew this was going to be asked!! Her answer was the truth! He is 12, and does not feel comfortable to go now. We will marry and create a good place for him first, then have him come to visit on vacation. Then petition for him next year and we will travel back to China two times a year to visit. He has a lot family and his Father will all care for him... Her custody is 50/50 with her EX-Husband, and as many of you know, divorce is not like it is here in the USA, plus the Son mostly always stays with the father -- Its his blood line...

This is a very sticky question as you can imagine a Mom leaving her child so again we knew this was going to be asked. Its heart breaking to even think about this ... but it is reality.

Q7: What does your fiancee do for a living?

Q8: How much does he make?

Q9: What do you do for a living?

Q10: Do you have any picture of you and your fiancee?
She pointed to our Very Extensive EOR Binder, and lifted up a 4" White Binder of our condensed History. She said his eyes got big when she said "Yes, I have very many pictures, let me give them to you, you can take all you want." He replied "no, no need" -- Funny because she said she felt seeing that big (very organized) binder scared him.

Q11: Are you a member of the CCP? He did not say CCP abbreviated, but it in whole words, which she did not understand. So he said it in Chinese. She said "No, Never"

Other notes:
Said that he was very nice and friendly. The interview lasted 5 minutes +/- 2. Also noted that all the questions we very easy, and that we did good practicing all these in very straight English prior. Again, we were very prepared!!

Noted that she felt he was hungry, wanted to eat lunch, so just scanned through our EOR, read a few things, and got busy with the interview -- fast. He spoke fast English. Probably normal for all native English speakers.

She only had seen two people get White Slips, and a few blue slips, all other got Pink.

Within a minute after being approved and pink slip in hand she called me. Wow, thought cell phones were not allowed. She waiting in some area to get information on acquiring her visa. Said she will go back to GUZ and pick it up in person.

All in all she was very please on how nice everyone was. Said this was very easy! Of course I said, it was easy because of you know me, and we prepared for a long time (even the night before...).

If anyone needs more information, please email me so that I can help you. So many on this site helped me, so it would be a pleasure to be more specific.

Now our lives can move forward!

Oh, i gave teh Consulate a 4 only because of the crazy Package 4 situation, wrong papers 2 times only added to our stress! Other than that it was a 5. Mistakes happen!!!
