Review Topic: K1 Visa

he arrived at 8:45am, the security told him he couldn't take his backpack with him so he had to leave it with them. at 9 am they asked for his passport and the appointment letter and two passport style pictures of him. At 9:10am they instructed him to take out his phone and anything that could be dangerous...Inside the consulate he sat down with a lot of people with different kinds of visa requests. he payed the fee, turned in all the documents and waited his turn. The interviews were open, everybody could hear them. He was the last one interviewed and it was by Ms. Kazemi. when he first started to talk to her, he felt like there was a 50% Chance he was going to get denied and a 50% Chance she would give him the benefit of the doubt.
The first set of questions, she was intimidating and didn't let him give as complete answers as he wanted, she asked the questions fast and he was very nervous...anyway here are the question he remembered...
do you speak English ?
where did you learn it? why?
how did you meet fianceancé?
who messaged first?
how many times did you meet?
what is your occupation?
how long were you chatting before it became romantic?
how long were you chatting before you met?
what is her religion? and yours ?
what is common between you and her? What do you like about her? ...i love her because she is ... WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY ...? ...he then went on to explain (After he answered these set of questions, the interview took a turn and he felt more like he was discussing with a friend)
what do you like about her ?
what don't you like about her?
tell me about her childhood?
talk about her family.
How many children do you want? he said 5 but i want 2. So what did you agree on? ...2 (that made her laugh).
then she said CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE APPROVED~!!!!! we feel so lucky and blessed...
she didn't ask to see any of the proof we prepared and the interview lasted about 20-25 minutes (but he was out of there by 1.30pm) and the last half of it was the better part, and at that point, Ms.Kazemi took time to listen to him and was genuinely interested in what he had to say. we really appreciated that. i feel that they don't really care if you know every detail about your lover to perfection. they just want to see if the relationship is sincere and all the documents are ok. the best way to answer the interview is by giving details about the connection you have with your lover. for example, "i love her" might be enough, you should be ready to talk about why and try not to let the nerves get the best of you and to give as much details about your lover as possible as the question come rolling in because its really freestyle and they observe everything.
BACKGROUND TO OUR CASE...
**we meet online and talked for 2 years before meeting...we got engaged the 2nd time i went to see him, towards the end of my 2 month stay (and this was 3 years after meeting online)
**with the 129-f application i had sent pics, videos, chats, emails, postal service stubs, letters from his family and mine
**we are both single, never married and no children
**around the same age
**we are different cultures and religions
i am not sure if this made much of a difference at the time of the interview because my love said that she at first seemed like she was asking questions to find a way to deny him...or catch him in a lie but the best thing he did was to answer honestly and she appreciated the details of our relationship because his answers showed it. Again, try not to be so nervous you don't answer with a depth!
