We stayed at the Jardines Del Teatro hotel (809-687-5114) 1/2 block away from the embassy. the room was a bit small but was fine for one night. cost $60 usd. there is no BIG sign according to the owner because they really want to stay away from the drunk walk-ins people. The owner (Hilda) was the sweetest thing ever. She was very polite and helpful. The hotel is well secured with cameras etc.
Our appointment was for 6.15am. We left the hotel at 5.25am. We got to the Embassy at 5.30am but there were almost 150 people ahead of us in the line.
They began admitting people into the Embassy at 6.10am. We got in at 6.50am. We were first called to window # 16 at 8.01am. A middle age gentleman very friendly but professional took my spouse passport, bank of Popular receipt, police certificate and the medical documents. He reviewed our file/documents and ask a few questions with regards to our documents (Spouse address in DR, If spouse parents are alive, if we both have any kids, if spouse ever been in the US before or other country.) this entire process lasted approximately 2 minutes. He then give us a number (lucky number 119). we then went back to sit.
At this time we were hungry so we went to the cafeteria.
we were then called at 9.05am to window #13. Spouse fingerprints were taken and was then sent back to wait for the same (lucky number 119 to call for the interview). the entire fingerprint process lasted 1 minute.
we were thinking that we would have to wait for a few hours for the interview but was surprised that our number was called at 9:15am, We were interviewed by a young American woman. not too friendly but no too serious. We were comfortable. the following are the questions asked after swearing in:
1. How did you meet?
2. Where did we meet
3. Do you have any children?
4. Asked my spouse, what job does your husband do?
5. Where does he live?
6. Where does my spouse live in DR
6. Ask me, What is my wife's (in-laws) Mother and Father's name
7. Ask my wife, What is your husband Date of Birth (which she mixed up but was not a problem, she made me 8 days younger)
She then asked if we had pictures (my wife pulled out the album and started showing). the officer stopped her and said "thats ok, thats enough".
She then stamped our paperwork and said "congratulations, you are approved". She give us a green ticket and direct us to the DOMex line. You can pay in dollars or pesos. the DOMex line was long as there were many approvals.
We left the embassy at 9.50am.
My wife called DOMex 2 days after in the evening and they advised her that her passport was there and is ready to be picked up. We went and pick up and was the happiest couple in the world...
