Agard went for the interview on April 8. He arrived at 7am as directed and was finished by 12:30. What I know is from what he told me when he came out, so its not first-hand experience.
In the weeks leading up to the interview we heard many reports of folks being told that they would have to come back for a dual interview on a fiance visa. This was going to be very difficult for us for a number of reasons. I wrote a letter and had it notarized that I sent with the documents for package 3.5. I told the consular officer that I still intended to marry Agard, that I wish I could be there, but because I am 14 weeks pregnant, my doctor's had expressly advised that going to Haiti (with potential Cholera and food poisoning issues) would be unwise. I sent a photo of a recent ultrasound as back-up. Had I the time, I would have sent a doctor's note but I didn't. I don't know if this curtailed the dual interview or not, but its a step that I took.
In the days leading up to the interview I grilled Agard using Visa questions found around the web: When did you meet? How many times have you seen eachother? What do you do together? Have you met her family, etc. WE ran through these questions once a day and by interview day his answers were short and came without thought. This was important because he was going to be very nervous at the interview!
Interview day: Agard arrived at 7am and the interview was not until five hours later. By that time he was very stressed. He said that the place was packed and there were about an equal number of approvals and rejections coming from the offices. He said that two things that were very important to the officer were the airline flight stubs that i sent (originals) and the photos of us together at the beach, at a restaurant, in the street, doing all manner of things, and a handful of us kissing. Q & A time:
When did you meet your fiance?
What was she doing in Haiti?
How many times has she come to visit you?
How do you spend your time together? (In our practice interviews he joked around and said, "well she's pregnant, isn't she?" I had to nip that in the bud!.. in the interview he said we went for walks, etc).
What does she do for a living?
Where does she live?
Have you met her father?
What does her father think of the engagement?
After this the officer said, "Thank you, sir. May I have your passport." Agard handed over the passport and was given a receipt that says he can come back on the 18th for the visa and passport. javascript:emoticon('')
