tood in line outside the embassy for about 5 minutes. then we went through the metal detectors and follow the signs to the right and stood in another line for about 9 minutes. then they let us and told us to wait by the windows for immigrant visas. After about 4 minutes they called us up and asked us if we had the payment and the forms, we said yes and they sent us to another window with a green form to pay. while we were waitint to pay the lady at the window next to the cashier called us other. first she asked us for the police certificates and birth cetificates. then she asked us if we had the DS156 and those forms. i handed those over. She sent jimmy back to pay and i stayed with her to give her the forms. JImmy paid in cash. he said everyone paid in cash and suspects that they dont actually accept credit card. after that, she asked us a couple questions. im not sure abou tthe order. She asked how we met. in what year we met. We talked about cooking and that jimmy was studying to be a chef. It felt more like a conversation than an interview. JImmy and i were having mini conversations while she was entering stuff on the computer. we had the interview in spanish, but i told her at the beginning that i am nervous with new people in spanish. then she asked for my financial forms. i gave her mine and my dads. she asked me what my dad does. i said hes a psychiatrist. she said, ahh, yeah, i can tell by the financial documents you gave. they look distinct for doctors. she asked if i was a doctor too. i said, ha, no, im a teacher. and jimmy said, ha, she doesnt have the patience to be a doctor. and i said, what! i could! maybe a kids doctor! and he said, ah ya, maybe.
lol. then she said, ok, im going to keep all these (she kept all the originals! except the chest xray, and didnt ask us for a shred of evidence of our relationship), have a seat, and theyll call you to room 15. we sat for about 2 minutes and then they called us up to that room. we entered, and really young girl (about 23 or 24 who spoke spanish with a terrible american accent) told jimmy to raise his right hand swear everything was true. they took his finger prints, and told him to sign the 156k. she asked me how if i came to peru to teach english with a program, or how i did it (i think this was her curiosity and had nothing to do with the visa). then she said, ok, your visa is approved, go to the dhl place on the patio. We went there, waited 5 minutes. we gave the bright pink slip to dhl and they said to call on friday and see if they have it (we said hold for pick up) and then we paid dhl (they dont take us dollars but they do take credit cards) and left.
overall, we were at the embassy for about an hour (sooo fast!) and it was all really painless. The first lady that interviewed us was from lima (i think, we decided) but she was pretty pale. She spoke english with a bit of a peruvian accent.
