We had our interview yesterday and here is the review! I'll just start by saying that everything went great and we were approved. My husband (the Canadian citizen) has an apartment in Montreal, so we left from there and went to have coffee (there is a Tim Hortons and a Second Cup just one street over from the consulate). We arrived at the consulate at about 7:25. There was someone else there. Then a family walked up too. The guard opened the door right at 7:30. Of course we had no large bags or purses or cell phones, etc. but the family who arrived after us did and the guard was a little bit harsh. He wouldn't let them even near the door and didn't even want to talk to them. He just told them to go away and come back without the bag. So don't bring anything large! Every other guard was nice. We sat kind of near the elevator, but soon after another couple came and they sat near the elevator. We didn't talk but I suspect they were VJ-ers because they were savy! Just like someone else had said, get in the elevators first because the doors open on the other side so you'll be the first out (we were third). After that we waited to get called back to the first window. We had done electronic processing DS-260 and so had to re-fill out the DS 230 form because the consulate isn't equip to handle electronic processing yet, so they didn't have a copy. We did that and handed back in the visa app and then waited. We were called about 15 minutes later. One thing that is kind of odd--you have your interview from behind a glass window. I don't know why I imagined it differently, but it did feel kind of weird to be talking to him from behind that. The guy who interviewed us was really nice. Asked us how we met, about our kids (we have 2) and about how my husband did a lot of driving between Montreal and the US during our relationship. Then he said the magic words "Congratulations". The whole interview was less than 10 minutes. We hadn't filled out our DHL info yet, and they are prepared for that so they give you a paper saying how to do it. Now we're just waiting for the visa to be delivered to the location.
