I want to start out by saying that all the anxiety that you experience prior to the interview is anti-climatic. Its so quick and you are in and out. Granted there are a few things you can do to stream line the process. So here we go.
Shannon and I arrived at the embassy at 6:45 am. There was no one there yet. I can see why people got a little confused as to the entrance. It is the side entrance on the road. You will see a bunch of papers on the window giving different information about the consulate.
We were the first in line and because it was so cold huddled inside the little passage way to block some of the wind. We were by ourselves for like 40 mins. No one started to show up until 7:15. We were glad to get there early because a bunch of people showed up out of no where.
Again we were happy we had VJ support, we decided to bring everything by hand and not take any chances carrying any bags. A few other people had bags and we felt bad because they got turned away. So bring everything by hand or use a shopping bag. You go through security just like an airport remove everything from your pockets and go straight through. Security is super nice but prompt because they want to move people through.
After security you go down some stairs and wait in a waiting area for another security guard to bring you on the elevator upstairs. The elevator is sooo quiet u dont even realize its moving lol. Once upstairs a woman is waiting for you and has you line up to receive your letters in the order you are lined up.
**warning do not let people cut you into the elevator alot of rude people cut in front of us on to the elevator when they didn't stand outside and wait**
We received letter C3 third in line because we got cut twice.
Literally as soon as we sat down we were called up. There is a prompt board that makes a noise and prompts the Letter and than the number of the window you are suppose to go to.
When we were first called it was to give finger prints. The man was very nice and just asked Shannon to press her fingers on a digital finger print machine. After he told us we can sit back down and will be called shortly.
After sitting for 10 mins we were called again and this time we had to provide all original documents.
Marriage, Birth Cert. Ds 230, Affidavit of support information. The woman commented on how organized we were and said shes happy to see that makes process easier.
*They were very appreciative of me supplying my W2 for 2010, that is what the consular officer used during our interview*
Woman told us to sit and we'd be called for our interview shortly.. We sat for another 10-15mins and this time they actually said Shannon's name over a loud speaker. We didn't hear it the first time and someone next to us said they are calling you. PAY ATTENTION FOR YOUR NAME TO BE CALLED!!!
We than walked into a booth type room, and a Gentlemen with blonde hair and glasses smiled and greeted us. We rose our right hands and swore to tell the truth.
He asked the following questions.
How did you meet?
When did you get married?
Have you ever Been arrested?
Where does your husband work?
Whats the name of the company?
Whens the last time you went to the US?
Have you ever had any trouble crossing the border?
After answering all these questions. He than said based off the information you have supplied I am happy to say you are approved. Welcome to the Uniter States.
That was it! We were so happy, and we told him he is a celebrity on Visa journey. He said he is very familiar with the website. Which means The consular officers most likely read the things that we say. I told him I'd give him good reviews he smiled and said thank you.
That was it. In total it took from 7:30 - 8:30 1 hour. In and out. So easy..So Relieved.
