CR-1 interview.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Montreal. It's a short walk around the corner to the consulate. The consulate is actually on a side street and not very noticeable. We actually walked right past it and had to ask a gentleman on the street where it was. He showed us that we had walked right past it.
We arrived at 7 am and there was no one around. We hoped it was the right place. Shortly after another couple walked up to the door and we found out that it wouldn't open until 8:00 a.m. By the time they unlocked the doors, it was probably 7:40. I was first in line. I had a computer type bag and was told it was too big. My husband had to walk it back to the hotel. Then I went inside was told to empty everything out of my pockets and had to go through a scanner. I was fine and was told to go downstairs. I sat right in front of the elevator as I knew that's where we went. I was also first on the elevator and was first in line when we got upstairs. I was handed a letter C1. I was then called to a booth down the hall where I had to hand over my paperwork which was all in order. By then my husband arrived back and was standing by my side. BTW they never even looked at the xray and I never had to hand it in.
We sat down for maybe another 5 minutes where I was called to another booth and a very nice man from Minnesota interviewed us. He asked if I had ever been arrested and if I ever had any trouble at the border. He asked where my husband worked and how we met. Then he said "based on the information provided, welcome to the USA". He handed me a letter and then we proceeded to ask if we could have the Visa tomorrow and he said no that we had to wait for DHL to ship it back..oh darn!
All in all it was a non event and very easy. The hardest part has been waiting for months and months to be with my husband. I am so blessed to have this over and soon will be able to live with my husband!!
