Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My interview was scheduled at the Dept. of Homeland Security Building in downtown L.A ... at 11:00am

We arrived there around 10:00 am and had to find parking around the area since there's no parking on the building, we found a parking lot about 4 blocks from the building, it was $6.

The line for checking your bags was short, only took us about 5 mins to go through, My wife wanted to bring her purse but i told her not to, and to just bring her wallet and the folder with all our papers, while on the line they send someone back to drop off their camera (NO CAMERAS ALLOWED) which made for an amazing I Told You So to my wife (since she carries a camera on her purse)

After that we went to the Eight floor handed over the interview notice which the security guard handed over to a clerk, he told us to sit down and wait until they called our names, We were called in, at around 12:30 (waiting time 1 hour and 30 minutes) we were greeted by a nice office and she made us follow her to her office, after we went inside the interview started

INTERVIEW

First thing she did was made us swear to tell the truth and all that, and told us that the interview will be filmed for later review if necessary

After that she sat down and told us she's been working since 7am and would like to get us approved as fast as possible as she wanted to get lunch and was hungry (Great Time for our interview! =D)

She asked my wife her info (birthday, parent's name, address) and she asked me my info I gave my parent's first name which were not the same and i had to explain we used the middle name mostly, after that she nodded and kept going through our petition, she asked who helped us file our petition (as it was neatly organized and had extra copies). We explained that our friend's mom helped us with that and she smiled and said to tell her not to make so many copies the next time

She asked to see her mom's birth certificate (original) as she's my sponsor , and my wife's birth certificate as well. She asked us if we had any kids and we smiled and said no, after that she asked if we would like to take her's, and my wife just smiled and said no thank you.

She asked about my wife's mother's job (she makes 150 grand a year working at chevron) and was surprised about that
She asked me if i was working and how much i was making an hour
She asked my wife if she was working and what did she study in college

After that she asked me some more questions and also whether i was going to practice prostitution in the US (I don't think i'm good looking enough for that) or practice polygamy, she proceed to explained about how different cultures have different customs etc etc.

She said she needed to see my original birth certificate and i realized i have left it at home, she said that they close at 3, I just need to see it, hurry up and go home to get it but drive safely, we ran out there like a bat out of hell and got back before 2:30, she went outside (the waiting area with all the couples) looked at my birth certificate and took the certified English translation with her. She smiled and said that we should receive a decision in the mail in 2-3 weeks and that was it.

While driving back home i got a text message of a status update saying that my green card was in production and i will receive it in 2-3 weeks

PERSONAL COMMENTS

I think the interview is pure luck, most of the officers are nice and really want to help you, I was prepared well enough with copies of everything i've ever submitted and tons of evidence and pictures, she didn't asked to see any of that and barely glanced at what was submitted with the initial petition.

While waiting there was another officer that had a young couple like us, my wife is 23 and i am 28 but we both look like we are barely 21

He separated them and had the husband wait for about 20 mins while he interviewed the wife first.

Be nice and they are nice to you, don't be nervous (as long as you don't lie you'll be fine)

That's it

Hope i'm able to help someone =D
