Our I-485 interview/appointment was at 8.30 am on the 11th of February 2011. We were there 30 minutes early which was enough to get through customs and to make it to the 5th floor. We were the first ones there, so our appointment letter was the first one in the box. We were called in at 8.45 and were helped by Amanda Bennishoff. She was friendly and nice.
First we stated our names and swore to tell the truth. Then she went over some basic questions like how long I had been in the US, if I had had previous visas, etc. She was browsing through our file in the meanwhile. Then she took our binder with evidence and browsed through it. She commented on how neatly organized it was and told us that some people just handed her a stack of papers, all unorganized. She made notes of everything.
She asked me how I liked it in the US and if I liked married life. I answered positively to all those questions and 15 minutes into the interview we were approved. She then proceeded to explain some details about the condition attached to my greencard and told me that it would take 4 up to 6 weeks to receive the greencard in the mail. When asked, she told me they do not stamp the passports anymore and that if I would make travel plans without the greencard, it would be wise to schedule an InfoPass appointment for the stamp. She said it would more likely take 2 to 3 weeks, her initial estimate was just to be sure.
Parking was across the street and for an hour and a half it cost us $3,50. It was terrible to get out of the parking garage, but worse things can happen.
All in all: good, fast service. Cleveland is cold.
