We had our interview appointment scheduled today - since we had to turn our cellphones off I am not quite sure what time it was when we got called to the entrance to be picked up by the interviewing IO.
The IO's first impression was very professional and informed us about the necessary swearing in prior to sitting down and getting the interview started.
At first we were asked for all official ID Documention, both of our passports, proof of citizenship of my wife, my EAD card, my birth certificate. Was asked a few times about my original passport/I-94 I entered with but had to tell that I unfortunately no more have it (no explaining why from my end needed).
Then my turn - verified a bunch of info from the I-485 AOS form, at times there was slight confusion, like when asked about my history of entering the US, but in the end all got it straightened out. Was asked the standard questions about terrorism, affiliations, and convictions, verified our address and I had to give my and my wife's phone number and also was asked about my current employment status (my work prior to the EAD which was disclosed by me was not mentioned or investigated). Was not asked for the original divorce decree, certified copy submitted originally, no explaining neither but just a yes no if anything was filed from my ex-wife.
There was a bit of confusion about the most current birth certificate and wondered why I didn't know anything about the original issue date 30+ years ago.
My 485 was amended with the info about prior entries though the form clearly asks for last entry only - and I had to sing this addition done by the IO.
Then the IO turned to my wife and scared me for a moment "Now, I will question your wife, while I do that..." I already heard the words "you will have to wait outside" - but rather it was followed by "you can get me any documents to proof your joint assets and all" - phew.....My wife was asked where we met, how long we live together and made a comment about only having a few days between my divorce being official and the marriage (got married 10 days later). Asked about if our families where present at the ceremony, where it was.
Asked her about trips we took and said we seem to be outdoors people who enjoy hikes and camping.
The IO looked at the lease, the joint account statement and current online printouts of transactions, deposits from my wife towards the account, kept our health insurance printout with me as a beneficiary as well as a sample printout of a airline reservation and then looked at our wedding album/guest book for a brief moment, though we also had an album with pictures documenting other things we have done in the time we are together.
The IO left to make copies of some of the photos of the wedding and one family photo we took while my folks were here from Europe and she asked again who's who's parents and marked it on the copies.
I then was asked to pack everything away again - incl. my I-94 replacement I applied with I-102 prior to filing AOS, which by the way puzzled the IO as it doesn't look like the regular I-94), and even gave me my EAD - if I would want to work in the meantime.
Lastly we then received the already expected "for further review" note - got educated that it is our right to inquire 30 days later and also were told that after review it takes 2 - 4 weeks to receive actual card and already mentioned the whole ROC process.
We thanked the IO for the time and left - if we got in on time, I'd say it has been little less then 30 minutes of interview time.
The best was coming home earlier this evening and, despite the knowledge of on how unreliable the online system is, decided to see if they recorded a touch - not on my wife's I-130 - but to my shocking surprise todays' date for the I-485 and "Card production" status - followed by e-mail verification at 4:45 p.m. - card is ordered
Thank you to all of you here on VJ who contribute their thoughts, knowledge and experiences in this complex world called US immigration !!! Sure made it much more pleasant and gave me more piece of mind then being on my own - looking forward to share more in these forums with people still on the path leading towards their immigration goal.
