Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam | Review on July 21, 2006: | STL_HCMC

Overall we had a very pleasant experience through the US Consulate in HCMC. I was aware of reports of rude staff, insufficient service quality and harrowing experiences.
However, our experience involved none of the aformentioned. From the time that our approved petition arrived to the US Consulate in HCMC, through to picking up the visa, we encountered friendly and helpful staff on the phone, through email and at the information booth outside the Consulate.
The interview process was smooth and as expected. The staff my fiancee encountered when turning in paperwork for the interview were helpful and accomodating. She said the consular officer that interviewed her was a very nice American woman that made her feel at ease and comfortable during the questioning.
My advice: this process can be harrowing or it can be what you make it! Half the battle is how you approach and communicate with those at the Consulate. In the end a true, genuine relationship will shine through the brightest. Prepare for interview questions, but a true relationship will produce honest, heartfelt answers.
Best of luck to those that pass through after us!
