Hi Sorry for a late review but thought it can be useful.....
I had my interview in chennai on Tuesday and went there on Saturday morning.
Why Saturday bcos i didnt had my medicals done and in chennai the only center that take medicals is Apollo clinic and when i took appointment with them they told it will take two days for medicals. So i had my medicals on saturday...Sunday they are closed and collected my reports on monday. (if there is any abnormality in you report they will call you on the report collection day and will condust additional tests).
So i collected my reports on monday and went for interview on tuesday.
I advice you to not look at budget hotels. they are not budget hotes, they are CHEAP hotels. I didnt have advanced booking and when i got down at Chennai station. i booked an auto person who showed me couple of hotes ranging from 600-1200 but you will not beleive they are worst than waiting room in railways.
please dont try to live there. No room service.. althrough sepeage in room stinking smell. but as i was getting late for medicals i booked one of them for 1000 rs and when in night i asked for bedsheet they gave me a sheet with big holes. so i changed the hotel and moved to Hotel Saramani. they charge you around 1300 (double) inc tax. and its very very good hotel. they have rest, bar, cyber cafe, room ser, thay have everything that you can need. It is just next to express avenue mall infront of Congress office.
My interview was schedule at 8:00 AM. so reached there at 7:45.
There is a single queue for both immi and non imm persons so it may take time to get in.
After that you meet a security clearence.(Dont try to take your marriage CD that is not allowed)
after that you need not to do anything..till the time you think what to do someone will come, take the app letter from you and guide you the way...
after that i went to diffrent building and was told to be seated in last row as the first and second ones were for non imm visas. at around 8:10 am, an indian lady called me for prescreening. she asked me following questions:
Who filed the petittion?
Since when is your wife in India?
Have you ever been to US?
asked for draft and asked me to sign DS 230 part-2. After that looked at my marriage pictures. looked at medical reports and returned teh Xray to me. She asked for my marriage album but was not able to give it to her with that limited window space to I flipped it on her behalf.
After that she confirmed me about teh I864 as i have opted for a joint sponsor.for me it took time for prescreening as i have not submitted any docs in VFS office so she wanted tomake sure i have everything. she also checked my mariage certificate and birth certificate. The whole process was less that 15 minutes.
after that she gave me a pink slip and asked me to write my name, cell num and emai add on back of it(which i think she used to enter details in her system)
after taht she asked me to sit and wait for my tocken to be called. i was back at around 8:30.
after say 30 minutes she again called my name (not tocken number) and took my fingerprints. after that she again asked me to sit and wait for tocken number to be called.
After at around 9:45 a young american CO came in and caleld my tocken number.
He have all my papaers and a white evaluation sheet in which that indian lady have given her remarks as to what is missing or what all portions she feel doubt abt.
The CO was very very good. He give you a good smile and greeting that within 2 mins you forget that you are in a interview. He asked me to take a oath and asked only theese questions:
where is you wife currently?
where is your daughter currently?
when are you planning to move?
i think just one two more questions and then said you will be mailed you passport within a week. YOUR Visa is approved.
He said have a nice day and I also thamked him and ws out at 9:45...
everything is streamlined in Chennai embassy and as you enter there, you stop feeling nervous.
