VERY similar experience to other recent reviews. Like others, we know there is no need to be early because the doors do not open until noon.

Enter through the standard security checkpoint as with others who have business at the embassy. Need all your ID documents (passport, etc) and of course brought our medical info and other supporting documents (affadavit of support, etc).

Waited for our turn and while we were there noticed/overheard many who were NOT prepared with the documents they need. Why they would not follow the directions included when you receive your packet of forms is beyond understanding but there were many who did not have everything they NEEDED for their interview.

A few questions about how we met, how long before we get married, etc. Does each person's family know the fiance, Do they like the fiance, etc. Just standard questions you would expect if you've read the other reviews.

We brought many many times more evidence than we needed, as we wanted to be prepared and did not want to have to come back later. Transcripts/print outs of our skype conversations, our emails, emails from my mom to him and from my mom to his mom, etc. NONE of that was needed but we knew if the officer needed more info or evidence to show we are a genuine couple, that we had to bring it with us as I could not take off from work again to come back to Costa Rica.

They were very courteous and business like. Asked the routine questions and then took our documentation, looked over the evidence we brought. Almost all of the extra evidence we brought was not even looked at, we had enough with just the items they listed as requirements on their instruction sheet.

Best advice? Be prepared ahead of time, bring EXACTLY what they ask for and get the medical and immunizations done exactly as they tell you. Then bring your extras (photos, emails, chat logs, phone records, etc) just in case you need them, these can be your "just in case" items that some of us need because we're nervous.

Be prepared with what they ask you for ahead of time and relax, enjoy being there. Not many folks get to be on the inside applying for a K-1 visa. Just enjoy each other and when you're approved, go celebrate!
