Dublin, Ireland | Review on August 31, 2010: | DublinD2
Rating: | Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
This review was for a CR-1 visa in Dublin, Ireland. Although the turn around time for processing was actually quick 8 weeks.
The process of getting there was a pain.
All of the issues I have were with the Irish support staff there, not the US immigration officers.
I had recently moved to Ireland with my wife in 2008 Jan, in March we decided to move back to the US and began the green card process.
We prepared the documents needed, called the embassy to make sure we had the facts, the Irish lady we spoke to told us/assured us that we could apply in April(even though it says 6 months in the docs for Consulate filings), after only 3 months in Ireland. So we sent the documents in and sure enough, we got them right back claiming we had to wait for 6 months before applying. The embassy also called me to tell me it was too early, I spoke to the exact same women(she gave us her extension the first time we spoke) who gave me the false information in the first place, she denied ever telling me April.
Again I asked her, "when can we apply?? Give me the exact date"! She told me June 1st. Again we submit the documents and got another call from another lady there. Again we were too early, that we had to wait until July 1st and said they were sending back the package.
By this stage my wife had enough of the old Irish lady crap, and so had I. My wife went down to the embassy, bypassed all the lines and demanded to speak to a US officer, not without receiving a huge amount of attitude from the Irish ladies who screen the applicants.
When she did she get an American she explained the situation and how we had received incorrect information on 2 occasions from there rep, she kicked up quite a fuss.
The result was that they began the processing of the green card 1 month early.
Once I had the interview process the US officers were very helpful and did indeed help on a couple of occasions during the interview, 1. was that I was told the doctor would send the health check report directly to the embassy, which he didn't, I was given leave to go and get it and come back same day and continue the interview. My wife's divorce "notarized copy" documents were not enough for them, so they rescheduled the finale of the interview to allow me time to get the court certified copy. After all these blips and mistakes some their's, some my own they processed the visa in 1 hr and allowed me to collect it from the embassy that same day as I had a flight the next day.
Once you clear the Irish battle axes at the screen the applicants you'll have a much better time there!
