We were allowed in the embassy 5 minutes before 1PM and we finally came out after 4PM. When we got inside we had the biometrics taken, then a nice lady (Romanian) took my documents, and I signed everything in front of her. She was very kind. When she saw the docs we had prepared for the affidavit of support, she said our lawyer really worked a lot to prepare everything. I told her we prepared everything by ourselves! She was really impressed and said they were very meticulous. (Thank you VJ!)
After that, I paid the fees, 1400 USD for all four of us. (We're bringing my three kids, too, 14, 10 & 7.) We then went on to the interview with an American Consulate Officer. The kids and I took an oath to swear to tell the truth. She asked the kids in Romanian if they know my fiance and if they wanted to go to America to live with him. Then the kids were told they could sit, and we continued the interview.
She asked about my fiance, his job, his house, how many bedrooms, about how we met, about my fiance's ex-wife, and about his daughter. Also, she asked me about my ex-husband, if he agreed with my immigration plans. I was honest and said he's not happy with them, but that I have full custody so his consent was not needed. (Romanian Family Law allows those with full custody to emigrate w/o the other parents written consent.)
The interview was only around 10 minutes and the lady was very serious about everything. It really was not just a formality. I gave her honest answers and, even though I was nervous, I think she appreciated that. In the end, she said our visas were approved and then she congratulated us. About an hour later we got the passports with the visas stapled inside and the sealed envelope for POE.
Anyway, there were people who had paid for the medical exams and the embassy fees, and then their visa was denied. I was a little scared when I saw them leaving without the visa, but this website really helped us both to prepare and to be ready for the interview. Actually, everybody there was really nice to us!
