Chicago IL | Review on August 2, 2010: | Waheed and Kris
Rating: | Review Topic: Adjustment of Status
We had our interview today in Chicago, our appointment was for 11:30am. We took the Rock Island Metra train into LaSalle Street Station at 10:49am. The 101 West Congress office is just across the street from the train station, so we walked there within a few minutes. No worries about parking. Security is there just as you come through the door. Walk through metal detector and they scan your bags. Really no big problem. As we passed through security we got on the escalator that leads to the 2nd floor of the building. Very easy setup. Gave our appointment letter to the receptionist who date stamps it and keeps the letter. She then gives out a pager and we went and had a seat in the waiting area. The waiting area is large enough to hold about two hundred people but there was only about 6 couples waiting. We waited for about a half an hour and our pager went off. We took the pager back by the receptionist at (Door 2) and our IO met us at the door. She was a very friendly American woman, very pleasant. She took us back to her office and had us raise our right hands and take an oath to tell the truth. She asked for my Driver's License and Waheed's passport. Asked about our address change because we had moved to a new place this past November. She said that Waheed was here on a K3 visa and asked if he intended to make a trip to Pakistan soon to visit with his family. He told her that he did have intentions to go for a visit and she left his I-94 card in place in his Passport. (K3 is a multiple entry visa so that is why, I assume, she left his card in place). She then started through our file and asked the basic Yes/No checklist questions. Asked Waheed for his full name, birth date, parents names. Asked me my full name and birth date. Asked if we had any children, I told her that I had three children that were grown. She asked to see our original birth certificates, divorce decrees, marriage certificate and translation. She asked for proof of relationship and if I had copies she would like to have them. We gave her copies of our current joint bank statements, my pay check stubs, letter from my employer, joint telephone bills, joint cable bills, joint apartment lease, Waheeds health insurance card, beneficiary forms, 3 years of joint tax returns. She asked Waheed if he had full access to our bank account. She then asked us to sign and date the back of a form giving our daytime telephone numbers, so if she had any further questions she would be calling us. She asked if we had any photos, so Waheed pulled out our album. She went through the entire album and then we gave her copies of all of our photo's (140 of them). I thought she would take a few but she took all of them. She thanked us for having everything in order and bringing copies of everything. She said that we would be receiving her decision in about 3 weeks, but it will probably be a lot sooner than that. She walked us to the waiting area and we left. I must say it was a very pleasant experience. Not at all what we expected. So now, we await her decision.
