Our appointment was for the afternoon at 1:30pm, so we went to the Embassy by 10am to drop off our paperwork.
When you arrive, don't wait in the long line of Tourist Visa applicants standing outside under the awning. Instead, go up to the guard and specify that you have an appointment with whomever sent you your appointment letter. It would have been a horrible wait if we didn't do this.
After waiting for about a half hour, we were called up to hand in our paperwork. I was of the theory that you could never bring too much proof. Well, I did. When she asked for any documents I had to turn in with my affidavit of support I had my employment contract, recent paycheck stubs, my current bank balances and my last 2 tax returns. I probably could have gotten away with just bringing a couple of these items, instead of all of them.
The lady who made our appointment was also the one that was there throughout the day taking our paperwork and checking in with us every 30-45 minutes. She was very considerate. She advised us of a good time to go to lunch for about an hour and then come back.
Unfortunately, there was supposed to be a strong storm coming that afternoon so the office was closing early (before our appointment). Since neither of us are from nor live in the Bahamas, she tried so hard to get us seen before their office closed but was unable to. She advised us to come first thing in the morning and would try to get us seen before the other appointments start in the morning.
True to her word, we were interviewed first thing the next morning. The gentleman apologized for not being able to see us the day before and asked us a few very casual questions. Where did we meet and when. What are our occupations. When are we getting married and where. When did we decide to get married. Where do we plan to live in the states. That was it, and it was very casual. My non-US citizen fiance had to sign an oath and then we were done. Visa approved. We were so relieved.
Again, the Embassy was so understanding of our flight situation that they were able to get my fiance's visa in his passport by the end of the day so he could fly home the next morning.
Despite the delay (which added to my anxiety about the interview), it was a very pleasurable experience. And the potential storm was out of their control (by the way, the storm never came).
