Very, very good experience all in all. Super friendly case workers and CO. I felt extremely comfortable and well taken care of (which helped my excitement and nervousness a lot ;-)).
My appointment was scheduled for 8:00 am, but I got to the consulate one hour early (thank lord, since I had forgotten to take my iPod out of my purse --> was able to put it in storage at a nearby kiosk). Anyways, once inside the consulate - W-number in hand- I was waiting to be called to window 23 (Immigrant visas) where I was briefly walked through the process and was handed a shit which told me how to organize BC, PC, and Affidavit of Support. The lady was super nice and right when I got to the window she said: "It looks like I have everything I need from you on file." The only thing missing were two passport pics which I had brought with me. For a sec, she wasn't sure whether they would accept them since I was wearing glasses on the pics, but talked to her supervisor and got the OK (they were frameless and almost not visible).
I was asked, then, to take a seat again and wait to be called up to the next window.
A couple of minutes later, I was called to window 21, where a very nice and helpful case worker, gave me more details on my upcoming interview and made sure I had handed in all docs and supporting material necessary. she went over my DS-156 to check off that all data is still correct, and, we also made sure the Affidavit is correctly filled out. The only thing that startled her was the black pen that John had used to sign ( I had told him to use blue ink!!! ;-)) - it looked like a photocopy. But after holding it against the light and double-checking, she gave her OK...yahooo!!
After we were done, she offered me to answer any questions that I might have and made sure that my travel plans were in agreement with the 6-months window of the visa and reminded me to NOT open the envelope that I'm getting sent once the visa is approved.
After sitting down for another 10 minutes, the CO called me to the window where all my fingerprints were taken. She was super friendly and I had already hope to be interviewed by her from afar. She simply appeared very pleasant. Anyways, it went on with her asking me the following questions:
"How long have you known your fiance?"
"How did you guys meet?"
About John's military career and what he's doing now after having got out of the Navy in April.
And if I had ever visited him in Hawaii while he was stationed there...
oh yeah, since we were also using a friend of mine as joint sponsor, she wanted to know how I knew Andrea.
That was it :-). And she just said that we're finished and that I should expect my visa in the mail within the next two weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOO :D
All in all, a very good experience.
