Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Had our AOS interview today, June 6, 2006. Arrived about 5 minutes late -- construction! -- with a box of evidence in hand. We waited about an hour to be called... There were about 30 others in the waiting area, which is not the same area where we sat for EAD processing. Our interview was a snap. The interviewer had our entire package (I-129F, I-130, i-485, etc.) in front of her and referred to it to verify answers to basic questions about when we were married, where we were born, etc. She asked how we met and where were our kids. The only evidence we were asked to produce was our drivers licenses, original marriage license, Eve's passport with her K-3 and I-94 docs, and birth certificates for our kids.

To the extent you think it matters, my wife is Canadian; we've been married for 10 years; and we are white, English-speaking, and upper middle class. We didn't use a lawyer. We arrived with our paperwork well-organized. The interview lasted 10 minutes; the interviewer told Eve to expect her green card in five days. That was it. Stunning how quickly it was over.
