I live in London so getting to the embassy was not an issue. My interview appointment was at 9:30 am. I arrived at Bond street station (a 5 minutes walk to the embassy) at 7:50 am and was outside of the embassy at 8:00 am. The embassy doesn’t allow people in until 8:30 am and there was already a short queue. Once the embassy opened I went through the various check points:
1. Show passport and collect a plastic bag for any metal you may be carrying (strictly no electronics).
2. Show passport again with appointment letter.
3. Go into an annex and though metal detector.
4. Go into the embassy building and show appointment letter to a receptionist who assigns your number. Mine was R906 (There were 6 immigrant visa interviews in front of me)
Please note that I was assigned my number at 8:30 am 1 hour before my interview was scheduled. I wouldn’t risk getting to the embassy more than 2 hours before you interview is scheduled.
After receiving my number I walked up a few steps and entered a large room. There were large TVs in the centre with chairs laid out on either side.
I was called after 40 minutes of sitting down and 100s of Non immigrant numbers being called. I went to window 11 and spoke to a nice American lady. She had my file, though, as I took my medical before an interview was scheduled she had to go look for my medical package. It took her about 30 seconds to find it (prior the interview I was stressing that they may have lost my medical details. I had my medical about 2 weeks before my interview date was assigned).
She then went though a check list to ensure my NVC file had everything. After that she told me sit back down and wait to be called for phase two. She also gave me a pink form to enter my delivery address for my documents and VISA (Don’t forget to bring a pen; they have some there, though, easier if you bring your own).
I sat back down and waited for an hour. This time I was called to window 15. A friendly American guy greeted me and instructed me to hold up my right hand and swear and oath. My finger prints were then taken. He asked:
1. How long my wife and I had been married
2. Where we met
3. Where will we be living
4. When will I move to the US
Then he simply said…. I’m not going to waste your time. You’re approved The whole process took about 2 hours. 2 interviews each about 5 mins and 110 minutes of waiting.
Thanks to my lovely wife for being who she is and for all her hard work.
Thanks to VJ and the members for all the help and support received.
Good luck to everyone!
