Visa wasn't granted. Issued 221-G and asked for more info on relationship.

Here's everything down to detail:

I reached India on Dec 26th. I met my fiancee on Dec 29th. We got engaged on Jan 15th. I came back to US on Jan 29th.

All paperwork was perfect. No issues.

In July, my fiancee went to Mumbai consulate for interview. They made her nervous right from the beginning. Asking her questions like interrogating criminal. My fiancee asked for an interpreter and they provided some jerk who was making her life more difficult instead of helping her.

Their main objection was, why I didn't marry my fiancee when I stayed for at least a month in India. They asked her if parents and siblings of both of us were present in engagement. My fiancee said yes. That's all they needed to hear. They thought that my real intention was to commite fraud by bringing my fiancee to US. Consulate ppl didn't believe anything my fiancee said. In the end, they issued her 221-G requesting more proof about our relationship.

It appeared that they made up their mind of not issuing visa to my fiancee even before the inverview started. Well, in that case, no matter what you say or do, it's no use.

The good news was she got 221-G, not the rejection. We provided all proofs they asked for, list of ppl who attended our engagement, our e-mail exchanges etc. The most important proof I had was all phone calls I made to my fiancee from US. I called my fiancee everyday and sometimes twice in a day. Luckily Airtel provided the log of all our calls.

My fiancee submitted all the docs to consulate and after week or two, they send her passport with visa stamp.

Conclusion - Getting K1 visa is riskier. I recommened filing for husband or wife if possible. In the interview if they ask why you didn't marry, say your fiance's relatives live in US and they wanted to attend the marriage or my fiance's parents couldn't come to India. Something about relatives, or siblings or parents. Don't use anything else such as short time, need to know him/her.

That's my story. Hope it helps all of you. Wish you all good luck.

- from Ritesh, Trupti and our lovely daughter Sanvi.
