My wife's CR1 visa interview got approved!First of all, thanks to all the people who shared their experiences out here. Those helped us a lot during the preparation.
My wife had her visa interview at Dhaka consulate on March 2nd, 2010. It was at 8.00 a.m. I had told her to take everything: I-864, copies of my Tax returns for 4 years, pay stubs, employment letter, wedding pictures, pics of us together on trips, wedding cards, birthday/anniversary/valentine's day card, joint bank account statement, email correspondence, phone call records etc. Also, photocopies of everything. First in one counter a Bangladeshi lady collected her interview appointment letter, two copies photographs, I-864 and my tax returns and W-2 statements. Then they took her fingerprints and had her sign the last page of DS-230 form. They also returned her the original birth certificate. Then they sent her to another window where a nice American lady took her interview. My wife said that she was nervous at first but it eased out after the conversation started. She asked her if she wanted to be interviewed in English or Bangla and my wife chose Bangla. The lady, who spoke fluent Bengali, told her to raise her hand and take the oath. Then she asked :
How long have you been married?
What are you doing now?
When did your husband go to the U.S.A?
How did he go there?
Where did he study?
What kind of job does he do there?
Do you know about his research project? (my wife was a little surprised by this question; but I had prepared her for this in advance; so she was able to tell one or two sentences)
How do you keep in touch with him?
Show me some pictures
My wife took more than 100 pictures of us with her and she gave them to the lady. The lady took close looks at them and also to my wife, trying to match my wife with the bride in wedding dress in the pictures. Then she returned them and told her that she was approved and to collect her passport and other original documents the next day. She gave a token that was to be shown during passport collection. My wife was very happy and thanked the lady and complemented her for her nice Bangla. The lady said she had been in the U.S. consulate in Dhaka for 7 years and that made her speak Bangla so well.
The whole think was done by 9.00 a.m. (I guess my wife must have been close to the beginning of the line; some other people in this forum said it had taken much longer).
So, guys, if your relationship is genuine and you have all the documents with you, there should not be any problem.Just go over all documents with your spouse and discuss all the possible questions with him/her. Best wishes for all the upcoming interviewees.
