We arrived at the US Embassy around 0745 and stood outside and waited in line for about 15 mins before they slowly let people in. Once we went through the metal detector and gave up all electronics (phones, mp3, cameras, memory flash are not allowed in embassy) we went downstairs and there were a lot of people sitting outside waiting. We went inside and got a number and back out to wait. We waited approx 10 minutes before we were called up to window 13 where a woman went over all of the paperwork that was sent to the USCIS and NVC. She asked me for my original divorce documents from my first marriage. Luckily I read in here that they had asked previously to people so I made sure I had mine. I offered my 2009 tax papers since I did them early for the interview. The woman gave us back the cover letters to the AOS, IV, and RFE I sent in and the set of photocopies of each packet that I mailed in also.
We went back outside to sit since it was full inside the building.
We waited again for about 15 minutes then our number was called to a second window where my husband had his fingerprints taken. This time the lady told us to go pay for the DHL envelope and sit inside the building.
We waited inside for the longest of time, approximately 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. Then we were called back up to the original window and there was a man there. He looked to be Egyptian, very stern looking. All of the questions were aimed at me(the petitioner) instead of my husband.
1)Where was I from?
2)How long was I divorced from my first husband?
3)how did we meet?
4)How long ago?
5)When did we get married?
6)How many times did I come to Egypt?
7)When was the first time I came to Egypt and how long?
8)What kind of work did I do?
All the time he was asking these questions he was looking at the different paperwork in our files so the questions went with the different paperwork. For example, he was checking off the requirements needed on the letter of employment from my place of employment and looking at the 2009 tax papers.
Then he held up the IV application and asked me if I helped my husband with filling this out. I smile and told him "of course". The CO then told me that he was going to talk to my husband now and for me not to answer for him.
The CO then asked my husband did he understand what the paper said on the IV application and my husband pointed at me and said "She did it" . The CO THEN asked him in Arabic did he understand what the paper stated and he answered yes. The CO then said Mabrooks, Congratulations and welcome to America! You will receive your Visa in a couple of weeks. I said to the CO, "What?" "Really? I brought all this evidence and you don't even want to see a picture?" He just laughed and said No, because I know you brought everything!
We told him Thank you and left. We were there approximately for 3 hours.
My husband called me this morning, 1/03/10 and exactly 1 week after the interview, he got his Visa through DHL
