Rio de Janeiro, Brazil | Review on January 29, 2010: | S & M

Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
This review is about the experience reported by my fiancee -- not myself. The interview was in early November. Since I\\\'m the one that have been using this site (which has been extremely helpful), I thought that this can help.
She is not from Rio, thus she took a bus that left her city at midnight, arriving in Rio at 5 or 6 in the morning. From the bus station to entering the consulate was a straight forward process. There was a lady with a clipboard checking people\\\'s name off (she didn\\\'t ask for the letter from the consulate, though my fiancee had the letter).
It was the IV (Immigrant Visa) unit that processed her case.
Apparently most of the cases on that day was for fiancee (not for greencard cases). She was blessed enough to be the third one to be called. The previous 2 people were in their 20\\\'s, and their sponsors were similar age.
The interview was quick -- similar to those posted in this forum. I had prepared a lot of documents for her, which included proof of our relationship. The Admin that received the package returned a lot of the documents. The Consular Officer didn\\\'t see most of them -- just the Admin. If I was to prepare the package again, I would overstuff with valid documents again. My guess is a lot of Officers rely on the Admin\\\'s feedback, and I wouldn\\\'t be surprised if the Admin handed the package to the Officer, indicating that everything was set, thus making the interview faster and easier.
The interview was quick. The questions centered on her previous stay in the US (background: she was in the US for 10 years). He was looking for any hint if she was in the US illegally. Since her stay was all according to US policies, they spent probably 2 minutes on this, and moved on. He didn\\\'t even ask a lot of questions about our relationship. My guess the goal was twofold: make sure she was the person listed on the application, and any hint of overstay. Since it was all in place, the visa was granted.
Per routine procedures, the visa was mailed 2 days later.
She came to the US a month after her interview.
Just a few days before she was to come, we found out that the consulate had the gender typed incorrectly on the visa page. Instead of going back to the consulate, we decided to leave as is. I didn\\\'t think that she would have a problem at the port of entry. I figured that they had her picture, and a sealed package with all of her information.
Thanks to VJ, we knew what to expect. It was a lot easier.
