Review Topic: K1 Visa

The result was not what I had expected. I DIDN'T GET the visa.

I waited for two hours before the consul interviewed us, the interview itself took no more than 10 minutes. Everything went well, the question and answer, evidence of relationship, medical results, police cert., original papers, until we came to the affidavit of support (income) portion. The interviewing officer was a small woman. She wore no expression in her face, Didn't smile when I said good morning though she responded. She spoke straight, fast and never looked at me. She just listened to my responses and her whole attention was to the computer, maybe checking/comparing the data if what I said was true..she only look at me, when it was time to deliver the verdict: It was stern and it was like she already had said it several times over. She flatly told me, "We cannot issue you a visa because your fiance's income didn't meet the income requirement. However, your fiance can amend his income". I asked her what would we do to amend his income. she said , "he can submit proof of assets, bank accounts, etc, to spruce up his income and once he has that come back to submit it. Or if not, you can reapply next year when his income improves". Then she left.

I just stood there, speechless and feeling defeated. It took time before I finally recovered my composure. Outside the embassy gate I cried bucket of tears after I broke the news to Joe.
