Amed called the consulate to find out if they had received his file from the NVC. They were very nice over the phone, told him they had the file, and he would get a letter in a couple of days. Sure enough, 2 days later he had his letter. He then called back when all of the paperwork was in hand (about a week later) and they scheduled him an appointment for 5 days later! He went to the embassy for his 8:00 a.m. appointment. He had to wait a while, and then they called him up and took his paperwork. They called him back up to correct a typo on his DS-156. Then they made him sign the form in front of them, write his name in arabic, and raise his hand and attest to the accuracy of the documents. The CO reviewed all of the materials he handed her, including photos, phone card printouts, a letter from my mom, the engagement ring receipt, a scrapbook I made him, etc. She then took his fingerprints, made him pay the visa fee, and took his passport. She gave him the address of the place he'd need to go to pick up the passport in about a week. He said "so the visa is ok?" and she said "it's ok." So, if everything goes well, the visa will be ready in a week for pick up in Algiers. All in all, he said everyone was very nice. He was not even asked any questions about our relationship.
