A few notes to people with interviews at the Tokyo Embassy.
1. Appointment time doesn't matter, you grab a number when you go in and they don't check your time at all. We got there a little after 9:00 for our 10:00 "appointment" and finished before 11:00.
2. I needed a co-sponsor, but didn't need the I-134 for myself. Just my co-sponsor was enough.
3. It doesn't really matter if your fiance(e) comes with you. It might be nice to help ease nerves, but every window we went to (3), the people were kind and helpful and tried to make things as easy as possible.
4. The checklist on the website that is sent in the packet from the embassy is missing a couple things, but they will kindly make you an extra copy if you need it or give you a form to fill out if you didn't bring it.
5. You can't use electronics inside, so if you want to be less bored while waiting I suggest starting a line outside before the embassy opens.
6. If you are missing a piece of evidence, they will just give you a sheet of paper with what you have to send them (by mail is fine) and as soon as they get it, they will send back the passport with the visa inside!
That's all! We were approved after a really easy interview.
