Bulgaria | Review on August 26, 2009: | Shad and Dani
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
My interview was for 2 p.m. At 1.45 they still made me wait for 10 more minutes outside. When I finally got in I paid the fee first. They took my passport, told me they would call my name and the long waiting started. After maybe 30 minutes a Bulgarian immigration officer came and looked through all my documents. She took most of them and asked me some questions in Bulgarian for not more than 10 minutes: what is his name and age?, how we met?, where we stayed and went while he was here?, what is his job?, have I been in the States before and where?, have I visited any other countries recently?, what is the opinion of my relatives about Shad?, when did the relationship got serious? etc.
After that I had to wait for about an hour to have the actual interview with the consul. I was the only one for a K-1 visa interview there. Most of the people were applying for green cards to visit relatives in the States. At 3.30 a very nice and quite young woman showed up at the window and called my name. She asked me in English almost the same questions like the Bulgarian lady but she focused mostly on how we met and what I knew about his previous petition. When I think about it I doubt the interview continued more than 15 minutes all together. At some points she took my fingerprints and started looking for something. I got a bit nervous because I thought maybe I had forgotten something. She made me go wait for a few minutes and went somewhere. When she was back she gave me the photos Shad originally sent them in January and I got the pin with the American flag! At this point I realized I got the visa because she didn't straight tell me anything or congratulated me at all. Before I left I had to fill out the DHL form. The Bulgarian lady forgot to gave it to me before.
Be prepared for a lot of waiting when you get there. Those people are not in a hurry at all! But overall they were polite and weren't rude. I guess I was lucky.
